Anna Thompson-Ford on everything you need to know about Pro You’s new Marine Collagen Beauty Blend
Perfect for winter and all year round, we have released a new beauty supplement formulated to give you noticeable skin, hair, and nail results. Nourishing and protecting your skin to get that inside-out glow just got easier.
Ingredients: we use the finest sustainable source with credible scientific backing.
Dose: an essential to get right. Every single ingredient is delivered at an effective dose that is clinically indicated to produce results. Individually, our ingredients are at adequate doses that could create supplements alone – together, they create a powerful cocktail of skin-loving nutrients.
What is our Marine Collagen Beauty Blend?
This blend is our own unique formulation of 7 ingredients specifically designed to optimise skin, nail and hair health. We have combined marine bioactive collagen peptides, astaxanthin, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, vitamin A, biotin and zinc to nourish and protect the skin. We blended these ingredients to create a synergistic effect – fighting the signs of premature ageing and restoring a firm glow – from the inside out. We deliver a hefty 8 gram dose of collagen per serve with other ingredients at efficacious doses.
What are the benefits of our Marine Collagen Beauty Blend?
This blend targets the beauty trifecta: skin, hair and nails.
With consistent use, you can expect your skin to create its own natural glow and feel firm, clear and hydrated. It is formulated to boost collagen and elastin production, improve wound healing and hydration levels and decrease undesirable hyperpigmentation. Another benefit that you may not see immediately but will pay off in time is protected skin. This blend will help protect your skin from external elements such as UV rays and pollution – through powerful antioxidants and photoprotectants.
Our Marine Collagen Beauty Blend is designed to nourish your nails and hair, helping them grow stronger and longer than ever before.
Collagen is the most abundant protein found in our body. Essentially, it acts as the glue that holds together parts of your body including skin, hair, nails, tendons and ligaments. From the age of 18, our collagen levels naturally plummet by 1% each year. By the time a person is 80 years old, collagen production in the skin may have fallen by 75% compared to that of a young adult. So as the story goes, over time, collagen decline leads to signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles, dull crepe-like skin and hyperpigmented spots. While this is a natural process – taking a collagen supplement has been shown to help improve skin appearance through improving elasticity, texture, hydration and decreasing wrinkle depth.
What is the difference between Collagen and Collagen peptides?
Collagen refers to the entire protein extracted from an animal (cow, fish, chicken etc) while collagen peptides refers to fragments of collagen produced by enzymatic and thermal (heat) cleavage. Collagen peptides also are called hydrolyzed collagen and collagen hydrolysates. As a rule, for our bodies to absorb proteins, they need to be broken down into singular amino acids or short peptide chains, 2-3 amino acids long. As collagen peptides are short and small, our bodies can more readily absorb and use them compared to whole collagen. As a result, this is the recommended form to be used in oral supplements.
(Short science lesson: A string of amino acids make up a peptide, peptides together make up a protein)
What is the difference between Bovine and Marine Collagen?
Bovine collagen comes from cows’ tendons, bones, hides, joints etc while marine collagen comes from fish skin, bones and scales. Bovine collagen contains collagen types I and III. Type I is the most abundant collagen in our body and Type III is the second most abundant. Type I is found throughout our body – in skin, hair, bones and nails. Type III is found particularly in our digestive tract and other areas that require elasticity (like our vasculature).
Marine collagen is only Type I – therefore is considered the type to use when addressing concerns relating to skin, hair and nails.
As marine collagen has a smaller particle size than bovine, it is absorbed and digested approximately 1.5x more efficiently. Usually, marine collagen is more expensive than bovine collagen. Marine collagen is considered a sustainable product as it uses the by-products of the fish industry which would otherwise go to waste.
In summary, while both can be good options, marine collagen is usually the premium choice out of the two as it has a cleaner, quicker absorption rate than bovine and is more targeted toward skin, hair and nail benefits. Many people wishing to minimise their meat intake prefer to take marine over bovine sources however if you have a fish allergy, marine collagen is not recommended.

Do collagen supplements really work?
Over decades, many clinical studies have been performed to assess the effectiveness of collagen supplements on skin appearance, joint health, wound healing and gut health. Randomised Control Trials (RCTs) are considered a high-quality type of study that assesses possible treatments. These studies randomly assign placebo and intervention groups within a population that fits the set criteria. Results from these types of studies indicate that collagen supplementation can help reduce wrinkle formation and depth and improve skin elasticity. When looking at hair and nail health, it has been indicated to increase the growth and thickness of both nail and hair shaft. In saying this, not all collagen supplements are the same. Collagen can come in many forms and this affects the absorption and bioactive ability. Looking for collagen peptides that have credible research behind them is key to ensuring you are spending your money well and going to get results.
What time of day should I take it?
We advise you to take this every day consistently for the best results. The time of the day is up to you and when it best fits into your personal routine. Taking it on an empty stomach has no impact on the absorption and effect, so there’s no need to worry about this.
